On July 18, 2015 over 40 canine athletes took to the track to help raise dollars for new equipment and scholarships at Bennie’s Barn. When the dust settled, Enid’s Paws 4 the Cause Dachshund Dash raised $9,000. “We are thrilled there was so much support for the event and for the cause”, said April Danahy, an Enid Paws 4 the Cause committee member, “it truly was a community effort”. Twenty four sponsors including title sponsor Park Avenue Thrift and dozens of volunteers helped pave the way for the race which was presented by Security National Bank, Eagle Marketing and the Chisholm Trail Expo Center.
“To raise that amount of cash is just amazing”, said Frank Baker, a Paws 4 the Cause committee member. “The crowd was excellent, the support was terrific, and I think the Dachshund Dash will continue to grow in numbers, not only in competing athletes, but the crowd,” Baker added. Dachshund athletes came from eight different Oklahoma communities and from Texas and Arkansas to compete in four different racing categories; puppy, adult, senior and mixed breed. The champion and grand champion of each of the divisions have earned the right to compete at the National Dachshund Races in Findlay Ohio, September 26th.
A check for $9,000 will be presented to Chip Baker and Keith Siragusa at Bennie’s Barn Friday, August 28th. “We are grateful for the community’s support of our program. This donation is tremendous and will certainly help secure much needed specialty equipment for our therapy horse program” said Chip Baker.
Enid Paws 4 the Cause is an annual event. The Enid Paws 4 the Cause committee consists of Jonie Ehrman, Lynne Benkendorf, April Danahy, Frank Baker and Steve Barnes. Each year the cause will change depending on the community’s animal related needs.
