SNB Helps Raise Dollars for New Police Dog

Enid Paws for the Cause Dachshund Dash Raises $10,000

On July 27, 2013 over 40 canine athletes took to the track to help raise dollars for a new Enid Police Department K9 partner. When the dust settled Enid’s Paws 4 the Cause Dachshund Dash raised $10,000. “We are thrilled there was so much support for the even and for the cause”, said April Danahy, an Enid Paws 4 the Cause committee member, “it truly was a community effort.” Twenty four sponsors including Park Avenue Thrift and dozens of volunteers helped pave the way for the race which was presented by Security National Bank, Eagle Marketing, and the Chisholm Trail Expo Center.

“To raise that amount of cash is just amazing,” said Frank Baker, a Paws 4 the Cause committee member. “The crowd was excellent, the support was terrific, I think the Dachshund Dash will grow in numbers not only in competing athletes but the crowd.” Dachshund athletes came from eight different Oklahoma communities and from Texas and Arkansas to compete in four different racing categories: puppy, adult, senior, and mixed breed. The champion and grand champion of each of the divisions have earned the right to compete at the National Dachshund Races in Ohio on September 26th.

A check for $10,000 will be presented to Enid Police Chief Brian O’Rourke during an Enid city commission meeting. “We are grateful for the community’s support of our department and especially the K9 unit. This donation is tremendous and will certainly help secure a new addition to our K9 unit” said Chief O’Rourke.

Enid Paws 4 the Cause is an annual event. The Paws 4 the Cause committee consists of Jonie Ehrman, Lynne Benkendorf, April Danahy, Frank Baker and Steve Barnes. Each year the cause will change depending on the community’s animal related needs.

Sponsors of the 2013 Enid Paws for the Cause Dachshund Dash include; title sponsor Park Avenue Thrift, Integris Bass Baptist Hospital, JB Liquor, The Groom Closet, Dillingham Insurance, Enid Pet Hospital, Wymer Brownlee, Gungoll, Jackson, Box and Devoll P.C., Northcutt Chevrolet, Jackson’s of Enid, Ward Petroleum, State Senator Patrick Anderson, McDonald’s of Enid, Groendyke Transport, Humphrey Abstract, Garfield Furniture, Grand Avenue Lighting, Muncy Photography, TPI Staffing Service, Oakwood Mall, and Pope Distributing.
