The Enid Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Douglas Newell is thrilled to celebrate Independence Day in Enid’s Meadowlake Park as the finale to Enid’s citywide July Fourth celebration. The concert will begin at 8:30 pm on Sunday July 4th.
Security National Bank of Enid is sponsoring the symphony’s performance. “This year’s mixture of arrangements has something for everyone. The Enid Symphony Orchestra and its premiere musicians never disappoint.” Said bank senior vice president April Danahy. This is the bank’s fourth year to sponsor the symphony for the 4th of July community performance.
ESO Music Director Douglas Newell has selected “Chillin’ on the 4th” as the theme for this year’s musical celebration.
In speaking about the collective anticipation and planning process for the performance the maestro explains;
It is a distinct privilege to celebrate our nation’s birthday with a concert of great music in one of Enid’s most beautiful outdoor settings – Meadowlake Park. Please join us in chillin’ out to the sounds of New Orleans jazz, conga lines, romantic ballads and hits from American musical theater. One of the highlights of the evening will be vocalist Amy Coplen’s performance of Jimmy Dunne’s “America Lives in Me.” It is a moving tribute to all that’s best in the people of America – the finest character traits of those who continue to see us through the challenges of this present time.
Among the selections the ESO will perform are; Summertime, Fly Me to the Moon, selections from “Frozen”, Louis Armstrong and Barry Manilow. The evening performance will end with a salute to the United Sates Armed Forces.
This performance has been underwritten by Security National Bank of Enid. Additional support has been provided by Park Avenue Thrift, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
