SNB kicks off community drive with a diaper bank

Security National Bank of Enid will be kicking off a drive to stock a community diaper bank that will help “leave no child wet behind”. The SNB Busy Baby Diaper Bank will be open for donations from September 2nd thru October 7th.

“The diaper need is there”, said Security National Bank vice president April Danahy, “in Garfield county there are 35 percent of children from infants to five years old living under the poverty level”. The Community Develop Association’s (CDSA’s) Baby Basic Program Hopes to address the need of struggling families faced with having no diapers or worse yet reusing diapers. “Our goal for SNB Busy Baby Basics Diaper Bank is 15,000 diapers and 175 packages of wipes”. Those making diaper and wipe “deposit” at the bank will be entered to win a $150 gift card from Security National Bank. Two tickets to the junior Welfare League’s Gala in December will also be in the drawing. “We appreciate JWL’s commitment to Enid’s children and working with us on this program” said Danahy.

One in three families in the U.S. has trouble paying for diapers. Babies are exposed to health risks from reusing wet diapers or being left in a wet diaper too long. Parents often must decide to start toilet training before their baby is physically and emotionally ready. Children may not be able to attend child care without a month’s worth of diapers, keeping parents out of the workforce. All these factors heighten family stress and can lead to physical and emotional trauma.

The overall diaper and wipes goal for CDSA’s Baby Basics program is 50,000 diapers and 500 packages of wipes ready for distribution to those in need January 02, 2017 and then continue stocking the bank on an ongoing basis. “Our babies deserve the best start we can possibly give them. Working together, we can ensure that babies have the diapers they need to stay healthy and comfortable”, said Cheri Ezzell, CDSA Executive Director. The diaper bank will be located at the Nonprofit Center, 114 South Independence. Donations are accepted there also.

There are many ways to help; donate diapers and wipes, volunteer to help CDSA repackage and distribute diapers on diaper bank days, support the diaper bank financially and spread the world.

The Security National Bank Busy Baby Diaper Bank will be open for “deposits” during regular banking hours at each of SNB’s three locations; 201 West Maine, 201 West Broadway and 210 North Oakwood.
