SNB and Park Avenue Thrift Help Upgrade Playground for Monroe Students

Monroe Elementary School students will see playground improvements soon, thanks to a generous donation from Security National Bank and Park Avenue Thrift.

Together, the community partners presented a $1,500 check to the school on Friday afternoon. While a larger playground upgrade is being planned, the donated funds will allow the school to quickly improve the safety material/ground cover beneath the current structure.

Security National Bank and Park Avenue Thrift are both longtime supporters of Enid Public Schools. From school supply drives and art contests to financial donations and volunteering, both entities have made meaningful investments in EPS and its students, school officials said.

“It is an honor and privilege to work in a community that is dedicated to impacting and improving the lives of children,” Scott Allen, Monroe Assistant Principal, said. “Both of these organizations are wonderful examples of our community’s commitment to changing kids’ lives. Their gift will certainly impact Monroe students every day, and we are extremely grateful.”

The Monroe staff, including administrators and teacher Robyn Walker, said the donation will allow them to fulfill the first step needed to enhance their aging playground.

“We want to say thank you for this contribution,” Howard Barton, Monroe Principal, said. “We will continue our quest for a safer and better playground area, not only for our students, but for our community as well. We appreciate the kindness of Security National Bank and Park Avenue Thrift.”

2015 SNB Pays for A’s

Security National Bank of Enid will once again be rewarding five lucky area students for their good grades with the SNB Pays of A’s program.

The SNB Pays for A’s is now in its 12th year. Thousands of report cards have been submitted since the program began. The bank sponsors the program twice a year, once for spring semester grades and once for fall semester grades.

The program is open to students in grades 3 through 12. Public and private school students are encouraged to participate. Students will have until 5pm February 06, 2015 to take their report cards to any of Security National Bank’s three locations. There the bank will make a copy of the report card and place it in a hopper. Four cards will be drawn from the hopper. Those four students will receive $10 for each A and $5 for each B on their fall 2014 semester grades. Individual grades from each nine-week section will not be considered. All students entering their grades will receive a coupon for an ice cream cone from McDonalds of Enid.

In addition to the four students who will be “paid for their A’s”, one card will be drawn from the hopper for a $150 savings account with the bank.

SNB 15 Day Can Challenge

SNB 15 Day Can Challenge

The employees of Security National Bank of Enid are taking a 15 day can challenge to benefit Loaves and Fishes of NW Oklahoma. The challenge is to bring in one or more cans of food each day December 01, 2014 to December 15, 2014. “If every employee is able to participate it would be 34 cases of food” said SNB vice president of human resources and corporate communications, “though many employees have already donated well over 15 cans of food.”

Security National Bank started the challenge to benefit Loaves and Fishes of NW Oklahoma after hearing of the impact lightly stocked shelves have on those in need, especially during the last fifteen or so days of the year.

The bank and its employees participate in many different ways to help those in need at Christmas and throughout the year. This year they added the Loaves and Fishes challenge.

Food is a basic need for everyone, yet more than 15 percent of Garfield Country residents struggle with hunger every day and 1 in 4 children go to bed hungry. In addition, Oklahoma has very poor health indicators related to food and nutrition, including high rates of obesity and diabetes. These negative health indicators significantly impact low-income families who often buy less expensive foods high in calories and carbohydrates and low in nutrition. The results are poor health and increased health costs for our entire community.

“Everyone wanting to participate in our challenge is more than welcome,” said Danahy, “if they donate a can of food we will enter them into a drawing for a giant Christmas stocking filled with toys, the drawing for which will be held December 19, 2014.” The canned food drive is being held at each of Security National Bank of Enid’s locations; 201 West Broadway, 201 West Maine, and 210 North Oakwood.

Loaves and Fishes of NW Oklahoma was created in 2012. It is a non-profit agency responsible for operating a regional Food Resource Center in Enid. It is located at 701 East Maine.
