Bank History

When other businesses are looking outside Enid for growth and expansion, one institution continues to place their faith and resources in the Enid community. Bill Athey, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Security National Bank feels that reinvesting the bank’s dollars back into the area is one of the most important ways to continue building our community into the millennium.

Security National Bank has remained an independent locally owned community bank through good times and bad. Athey said "the bank survived the Great Depression, the dust bowl, several recessions, and the oil bust of the 1980’s. This is a true test that our roots are firmly planted in the Enid community."

Security National Bank was founded before Oklahoma statehood. It was chartered in 1905 as Oklahoma State Bank and was renamed Security National Bank of Enid in 1935. The Athey family has owned controlling interest in the bank since 1927. Bill Athey is the third generation of the family to serve as CEO and chairman of the Board.

The bank is dedicated to remaining focused on Enid and giving back to the community. From offering our customers a full service bank with many added benefits, to assisting new and expanding businesses with commercial loans, and helping families purchase homes and cars, the bank is committed to Enid and believes in this community and its future economic viability.

The bank’s number one priority is its customers, followed by a strong commitment to all of the many community and civic projects in Enid. The bank encourages employees to be active in the community. The project the bank is most proud of is the Keeper of the Plains Scholarship Foundation. Security National Bank was instrumental in establishing this foundation which recognizes outstanding Native American students and awards scholarships. Since its inception in 1995, the foundation has raised funds to award $5,000 in scholarships each year to Native American students pursuing a college education.

"Our roots are here in Enid and we are an institution 100% focused on the Enid area. Security National Bank will continue to contribute to the economic growth of Enid by serving its customers with a spirit of optimism for the community and bank, and by continuing to provide civic leadership in the community, well into the 21st century."

-- Bill Athey
